The 20-year-old shot stopper impressed on loan with spells at Evo-Stik Northern Premier sides Rainworth Miners Welfare and Gresley last season.

And now the youth team graduate has been given the chance to extend his stay at the Banks's by boss Dean Smith.

"I needed to get that match experience last season and I feel that my performances whilst out on loan helped me to get this new contract.

"The gaffer monitored me closely and there were some good reports from my performances at Gresley in the second half of the season, which was nice."

Roberts was also full of praise for club goalkeeping coach Neil Cutler who he believes is the right man to progress his career.

"Even though I was out on loan for much of last season, I was still training here day in, day out with Neil Cutler," he said.

"He has improved me so much both on and off-the-field and instilled a tremendous work ethic into all of the goalkeepers at the club.

"We're the first on the training pitch and the last off. The work that we do is both enjoyable and beneficial and I am pleased with the progress that I have made over the past couple of years.

"Pre-season is going to be about showing the management what I can do. I'll be working hard every day so that I am ready to take my chance.
