James Chambers: Statistics haven't done Walsall justice

James Chambers today claimed the statistics have not done Walsall justice this season.

The Saddlers end a hugely frustrating campaign today when they host Colchester United.

After spending the first two-thirds of the season battling for the play-offs, they now find themselves fighting to maintain a top-half finish.

A return of just 49 goals from 45 games has been seen as a major cause, but Chambers believes the Saddlers have been better than the numbers suggest.

"Sometimes you look at stats and sometimes they don't do you justice," he said.

"In 90 per cent of games I would say we have performed well but we have not always come away with the result we deserved.

"That is football and the table does not lie, although we feel we should be further up it."

Chambers, out of contract this summer, is one of several players who will sit down with manager Dean Smith this week to discuss his future.

"I'm enjoying it here," he said. "I'm happy but nothing has been sorted as yet."
