Walsall's James Baxendale: We'll fight for local pride

James Baxendale admits Walsall won't need much of a team-talk before taking to the pitch tomorrow.

With the Saddlers heading for their first home sell-out in a decade, the winger admits players are relishing the prospect of facing their league-leading rivals in front of packed stands.

And he says they will need no reminding of just what is at stake.

"These games take care of themselves," he said. "The boys are all up for it and the atmosphere is all there for us.

"It's something everyone is up for and we all want to be out there playing. They (Wolves) are right up there at the top and it's all set for a really good afternoon.

Baxendale acknowledges the Wolves line-up has changed significantly since their first league encounter in September, when the Saddlers claimed a 1-0 win. But he says they aren't the only ones.

"I'd daresay our line-up has changed slightly as well," he said. "It's going to be a packed house, with both teams up for it.

"We played Coventry at home last year and that was busy and a really good atmosphere. It will be red hot inside the ground and it's something we are all looking forward to."

While Baxendale has limited derby experience to draw on, right-back James Chambers is at the opposite end of the scale.

The 33-year-old has played in no shortage of big games under his belt, having played in the Black Country's blue-riband encounter for Albion against Wolves.

"It's always good playing in the big stadiums and in local derbies," he said.

"It's clear to see they (Wolves) are on a good run. They have some good young players and a bit of experience as well. It will be a good game for us.

"But on our day we will be a match for any side in the league and that will not change because we are playing Wolves."
