The forward's classy brace sealed a 3-1 win over Oldham on Saturday to move the Saddlers to within four points of the League One play-offs.

Paterson struck his eighth and ninth goals of a productive season which has seen him linked with Sheffield United.

But the 21-year-old, who still has another 18 months left on his contact, insisted the speculation does not bother him.

He said: "It happens with every player and every forward who is scoring goals is going to attract attention.

"I don't know anything about it and the gaffer said nothing came of it. I'm happy to be here at the minute and scoring goals.

"This season has been something special so far, it's the highest I've been in the league. There are no big- time Charlies here, we're all young players, we're on all the same path and hopefully we'll push up the table.

"It's a good feeling being high up the table and not fighting a relegation battle. We just want to get as many points on the board as possible and if we're close to the play-offs at the end we'll be happy."
