Dean Smith has faith in his youngsters

Dean Smith today insisted he has complete trust in Walsall's starlets but admitted they must be handled with care.

The Saddlers boss has no fear in handing his kids the chance to shine in League One when they are needed.

First-year professionals Aaron Williams and Jake Jones have made their debuts this season while Mal Benning, Kieron Morris and Ben George are on stand-by.

Smith made his Walsall debut when he was 17 and said: "We'll blood them every now and again and see how they do. You do go back to your personal experience.

"I was thrown in at 17-years-old and it was sink or swim – fortunately I could doggy paddle. We're not at that – it's not sink or swim – but we can test the water."
