No panic at Banks’s – Lee Beevers
Monday 6th February 2012, 10:57AM GMT.
Lee Beevers today insisted Walsall can claw back the growing mid-table gap.
The Saddlers dropped into the League One relegation zone on Saturday – after their game at Scunthorpe was postponed.
Wycombe’s 2-1 win over Tranmere saw them leapfrog the Saddlers, although Dean Smith’s men have a superior goal difference and a game in hand.
They host Colchester on Saturday with seven points between them and 16th placed Oldham, whom they go to next Tuesday, but Beevers isn’t concerned.
“You can see there’s a bit of a gap appearing but we have to go on a run and drag those teams back into it,” said the defender.
“You look forward to the next five games and how many points you want – regardless of how they come about. We need to push forwards and look in little blocks.
“It’s been disappointing and everyone is disappointed in where we are and what we’ve done. We need to turn it around in the second half of the season.
“It’s swings and roundabouts but we’re a very confident bunch of lads. If you look at the first half of the season then we do feel a little hard done by.”
The Saddlers host Wycombe a week on Saturday in another crunch relegation clash after Tuesday’s trip to Oldham.
And Mat Sadler said: “You can see at the bottom of the league a couple of wins takes you further up. There are people getting sucked in and there always will be. We’re difficult to beat and we’re a solid unit and results and wins will come.”
There’s no panicking in the dressing room. We’ll be fine.
“We’re looking forward to every game and we’re getting there, we’re getting closer to that standard we feel we can reach.”
