Alex Nicholls feared a ‘Torres’ moment
Monday 10th October 2011, 10:00AM BST.
Walsall striker Alex Nicholls today labelled this season his biggest yet and admitted he feared a ‘Torres’ moment at Wycombe on Saturday.
The Saddlers forward insisted he couldn’t afford to miss an open goal in the 1-1 draw at Adams Park because he needs to prove himself.
Ben Strevens’ backpass gifted Nicholls the equaliser and he knew he had to avoid a repeat of Fernando Torres’ horror miss for Chelsea against Manchester United last month to show he can shine.
Nicholls said: “This is my biggest season so far. I come to the end of a two-year contract this summer, so I need to do the business when I play.
“I definitely needed to make sure because I definitely didn’t want a Torres moment. I didn’t want to take it first time with my left foot and put it wide.”
