David Martin returns for Walsall clash
Friday 30th September 2011, 10:29AM BST.
Walsall winger David Martin today handed the Saddlers a fitness boost after an injury scare threatened to end his loan spell.
The Derby County wide man is set to return against Carlisle tomorrow after being sidelined with an ankle problem.
Martin missed last weekend’s 1-0 defeat at Colchester and went back to Pride Park for treatment, but is available again after scans revealed no serious damage.
Saddlers boss Dean Smith said: “David is OK, he went back, had a scan at Derby and it’s put his mind at rest.
“There was an old injury which was giving him a problem and had just flared up. Luckily he’s OK, so he was back with us today.
“It can be a worry when you’ve brought someone in on loan and they get injured because you’ve paid money for them.
“It’s pleasing because David phoned me up and said ‘I’m ready to come back’ which is really good.”

And that’s a boost how?

He should only make the subs bench at best; he shouldn’t start – not unless he’s also had a Joe 90-type brain input at Derby (as well as his ankle scan) to make him a decent left winger!
