Doubt on David Martin’s Walsall loan

Walsall were today sweating on the fitness of David Martin after the on-loan Derby County winger returned to Pride Park with an ankle injury.

The wide man missed Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Colchester and the Saddlers are waiting on the results of scan to discover the severity of the problem.

Manager Dean Smith revealed Martin, who is at the club for a month and has made two appearances, had existing ankle trouble but doesn’t yet know whether it will end his spell.

Smith said: “It’s his ankle, he had an ankle injury a month ago and it’s just flared up again, so he’s got to go and be reassessed by Derby.

“We’ll find out soon, we don’t know the results of the scan yet, so once we see them we’ll know.”

Colin, did he play? I’m sure I saw him on the pitch but I doubt you could class it as playing.

Blessing in disguise! Let’s get someone in who is: a) Better than what we already have – not worse; and b) Not carrying an injury. C’mon Deano, it’s time to scour the Championship reserve league and pick up a few decent loan signings.

It baffles me how some of these players can actually earn a living out of playing football.
