Richard Taundry a star for Walsall
Tuesday 23rd August 2011, 9:10AM BST.
Walsall boss Dean Smith believes Richard Taundry can be the Saddlers’ next big money star – if the midfielder harnesses his ability.
Taundry has shined for the club at the start of the season and Smith reckons he can follow Troy Deeney and Matt Fryatt from the Banks’s Stadium to a higher level.
While the Saddlers have not had any interest and would not be keen to sell, Smith reckons Taundry has the quality to follow former team-mates.
The manager said: “It’s up to Richard, if he continues as he is doing then no problems.
“It’s always nice to see kids coming through the system. He’s a local lad and he’s a Walsall supporter and gives 100 per cent.
“The fans know he’s a local boy and hopefully they’ll stick by him.”
The 22-year-old has earned praise for a more measured game, after Smith and his staff made a conscious effort over the summer to add composure to his armoury.
The former trainee looked set for a switch to right-back after ending last season there but, following talks with Smith, will remain in the Saddlers’ engine room.
Smith said: “We see his main position as in central midfield and, over the last few games, we have seen that he is more than capable of holding down the shirt.
“He is a 100 per cent player, the sort of player required in midfield and wants to be seen as the No 1 midfielder for us.”

Not keen to sell? They would sell at the first sight of anything resembling cash!!

First hundred grand offer es Gone…

I’d rip their hand off for anything like 6 figures. he’s average at best. you could see Deeney, Dann, Fryatt had something special. I’d say Westlake had far more potential to play higher.

Surely you know Uncle Jeff better than that Deano?
First sniff of a pile of fivers and Jeff will have Taundry’s bags packed and raided petty cash for his bus fare.

I’ll pack his bags and pay his bus fare if anyone puts a 6 figure offer in! no where near as good as Dann and Fryatt. In fact, we saw him return to his normal level against Yeovil…

Give the kid a break he has finally got the arm round the shoulder and man management he needs to develop his game further, if he does that and succeeds then we will along side him, if that results in a big money move good luck to him. Lets get real it is bringing through players we can sell on that keeps us afloat I cannot imagine Dean giving him away and lets not forget we are only in month 1 of the season. I for one hope he continues the way he has started and becomes a target cos as I said it means we have produced another star and fingers crossed be in the play offs.
Keep your head Richard and keep it simple, don’t chase the glory ball and watch and learn from Chambers and you will not go far wrong

Forget the bus fare, i’d drive him there for anything over 50k!
Much rather have Peterlin and Chambers in the team. I dont doubt Taundry’s heart but if that made a footballer I’m sure we would all be Messis’!

I don’t think anyone posting ‘negatively’ on here wouldn’t want Taundry to sudddenly become championship class, but on last and then this season’s performances so far, he’s nowhere near. If someone offered money for him now they’ve seen something Walsall fans haven’t been privy to in the last 18 months.
As i said, average player at this level at the moment. He has loads of heart and effort, but haven’t seen the class. Really hope i’m proven wrong though.
