Orient exit right call to Adam Chambers
Monday 8th August 2011, 11:04AM BST.
Adam Chambers today insisted his dream Walsall debut has justified his decision to quit Leyton Orient.
The midfielder’s 30-yard wonder-strike sunk his former club on Saturday and he admitted he would have been frozen out had he stayed and took up the year’s option left in East London.
The 30-year-old former Albion ace, who made 70 appearances for the Baggies, was boss Dean Smith’s top summer target.
And Chambers, whose goal on Saturday was enough for a 1-0 victory, believes he made the right decision in ending his five-year stay at Brisbane Road.
He said: “I had agreed to sign at Leyton Orient but I had a few conversations with people there and it become clear I was no longer wanted. The gaffer here gave me an option to get out and get playing.
“When it’s made obvious to you you’re not wanted, you don’t want to stay around and be in the stands. I owe a huge thank you to the gaffer here for giving me a chance.
“It was nice playing against a former club on my debut and I couldn’t have written a better script, but I’m just happy with the three points.”
