Walsall hand shot to three trialists
Wednesday 13th July 2011, 1:00PM BST.
Walsall were today set to hand trialists Lee Beevers, Anton Peterlin and David Grof their shot in Scotland.
The trio will feature for the Saddlers in the first pre-season game at Greenock Morton tonight in their bid to win a deal.
They have been training with the squad at their training base at Stirling University this week.
Beevers is a free agent after being released by Colchester, while midfielder Peterlin was freed by cash-strapped Plymouth earlier in the summer.
Hungarian goalkeeper Grof finished last season on loan at Mansfield, but was let go by parent club Notts County in June.
The trio fit the bill for boss Dean Smith as he searches for a new defender, midfielder and goalkeeper.
Beevers can play across the back four and could provide extra competition for Darryl Westlake at right-back.
The 27-year-old started his career at Ipswich before moving to Boston and spent five years at Lincoln, where he made 185 appearances and scored 11 goals.
The former Wales under-21 international joined Colchester in 2009, but made just 26 appearances in two years and was released by boss John Ward at the end of last season.
Peterlin started with hometown club San Francisco Seals before netting a move to Everton in 2009.
But the 24-year-old failed to make an appearance for the Toffees and joined Plymouth last year – but was released as part of cost cutting measures having made 14 just appearances.
Grof, 22, spent last season on loan at Mansfield, making 13 outings.
