Walsall today completed the signing of former Albion player Adam Chambers.

The midfielder has penned a one-year deal at the Banks's Stadium, after rejecting a fresh offer to stay at Leyton Orient.

Saddlers boss Dean Smith is a big admirer of the 30-year-old former Baggies man, who he sees as the ideal signing for his engine room.

The pair worked together for three years at Brisbane Road, when Smith was assistant to Martin Ling, and Sandwell-born Chambers has made 195 appearances for the Os.

The manager said: "As soon as I found out that Leyton Orient were willing to let Adam go, I had no hesitation in speaking to him about a move here.

"I know him very well both as a player and a person. He is a great professional who will give us energy and a touch of quality.

"He knows this league inside out and has also played at a higher level earlier in his career, so I am delighted to have him on board."

The Saddlers needed to boost their midfield options after failing to agree terms with Matt Richards, Julian Gray and Emmanuel Ledesma.

Smith doesn't expect Richards or Gray to return, while Ledesma went back to Argentina at the end of last season and the club have not heard from him.
