Andy Butler: Escape my career highlight
Friday 29th April 2011, 11:28AM BST.
Skipper Andy Butler today admitted saving Walsall from the drop would be the crowning glory of his career.
The defender is primed for tomorrow’s visit of Charlton knowing a win could prove the difference between survival and relegation.
The Saddlers are a point above the League One drop zone and could relegate Bristol Rovers and Dagenham with a win — should they lose against Sheffield Wednesday and Carlisle respectively.
And Butler, one of Walsall’s outstanding performers this term, reckons the Great Escape would be his biggest triumph.
“It would be my best achievement. It would be brilliant to lead the team out against Southampton knowing we’re safe,” said the 27-year-old.
“It would be better than promotion because of where we were in the league. To stay in this division would be brilliant for the club, brilliant for the fans and everyone involved with Walsall.
“It would be unbelievable to keep us up. From where we were at the beginning of the year it has been brilliant for the management and players to prove how good they really are.”
