Walsall sign Jason Price on loan
Friday 28th January 2011, 11:35AM GMT.
Walsall have today swooped for Carlisle hot-shot Jason Price as they boosted their survival bid.
The striker is available, subject to clearance, for tomorrow’s visit of Bristol Rovers after signing for a month.
Manager Dean Smith has been hunting the forward this month and finally got his man and Price, who has scored 86 goals in 479 appearances, is relishing the challenge with the rock-bottom Saddlers.
He said: “I knew Walsall were interested and a couple of League Two clubs were also interested but Walsall were a better option for me.
“They might be bottom but Walsall are still in League One and I spoke to the boss and they are playing well but just can’t score.
“If you are playing well it’s something to look forward to. If you’re playing rubbish and losing it’s a different story.
“I haven’t been playing at Carlisle and I needed to get some games. My contract is up at the end of the season so I need a club. I need to score goals so people recognise me.
“I’m not prolific but I get goals and always have a good start with every club I go to.”
Price has scored just two goals this season – one during a loan spell with Bradford – after struggling to hold down a regular place at Brunton Park.
And the 33-year-old revealed his frustration with his lack of chances under Greg Abbott.
He said: “I think my time is up there as I haven’t started a game this season. When I signed last season I scored four goals in eight games so I thought I would be starting this season.
“It has been frustrating, especially when you’re coming on for four or five minutes and thinking ‘this is rubbish’.”
Price was on the verge of joining the Saddlers in 2009 under ex-manager Chris Hutchings before joining Millwall at the 11th hour.
He said: “I was going to come but it was too good an offer to resist from Millwall. I chose that but obviously it backfired!”
The Welshman scored in the Saddlers’ 1-1 draw at Carlisle in May last year, but will not be able to play against his parent club when Walsall travel north next Saturday.

A good signing I think, if allbeit yet again only for a month. Hopefully in this month he will score as many goals for us as he has scored against us in the past.

Decent signing. Experienced and will give us some strength up front. Got to get the ball into his feet though and carry on getting it out wide like we have to get the crosses in! Doesn’t look hopeful for a return of Devaney or Andy Davies though does it?? Still think we need to strengthen at the back if we’re gonna have any chance. Come on boys!

Not sure about this one. Only one goal in 11 outings for Bradford… I think we need someone with a better record

Agreed, Price has never been prolific but he’s always a handful and he’s one of those strikers who always seems to score against us.
The second week running that Deano’s signed the kind of player we need.

No need to criticise my response but a hotshot scores more than 1 goal every 5.56 games.
