Paul Marshall seeks end to Walsall goal woes

Paul Marshall today targeted a Christmas goal rush after admitting the Saddlers’ scoring woes are a “problem”.

They are the lowest scorers in League One having netted just 18 times this term, a record which has helped leave them second bottom of the table.

The Saddlers are due to go to Bristol Rovers on Boxing Day – who have only scored seven times at the Memorial Ground in the league this season – bidding to claw their way to safety.

It starts a run of key games against fellow strugglers Dagenham and Redbridge, Notts County and Tranmere which could define the season.

And one-goal midfielder Marshall admitted the Saddlers must find their killer instinct to survive.

“No-one is really scoring and that’s our biggest problem,” said the 21-year-old.

“Losing Jon Macken and Reuben Reid to injury recently was a big blow for us because they were playing well. We need someone to start scoring, it could be anyone as the chances are coming but they don’t seem to be going in.

“Once they start going in maybe they’ll go in more and more.”
