Sheffield Wednesday 3 Walsall 0

Walsall’s woes continue after they went down to Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

Darren Potter, Mark Beevers and Clinton Morrison sunk the Saddlers who remain bottom, seven points from safety in League One.

Potter rattled in from 25-yards after just seven minutes – although goalkeeper Jimmy Walker should have done better – and Beevers netted with 15 minutes remaining.

Morrison then headed in the third for the promotion-chasers eight minutes from time.

The Saddlers gave their promotion chasing hosts a scare as Reuben Reid, Will Grigg and Matt Richards all tested goalkeeper Nicky Weaver.

But defeat was compounded by the loss of Jonathan Macken and Reid to injuries.

Walsall were unchanged following their 2-1 win over Carlisle on Saturday but Ryan McGivern did return to the bench after suspension, replacing Sean Geddes.

But, after a solid first five minutes, the Saddlers fell behind when Gary Teale’s cross was half cleared to Potter and the midfielder found the bottom corner from 25-yards.

To their credit, the Saddlers stuck to their task and frustrated their hosts but suffered a setback when Macken limped off after just 26 minutes.

Replacement Liam Dickinson flicked Alex Nicholls’ cross wide, before Walker saved low from Tommy Miller after the midfielder burst through the Saddlers’ defence.

Reid forced a sharp save from Weaver just before the break, as the Saddlers pressed before he was forced off mid-way through the second-half.

Grigg and Richards tested Weaver but the Saddlers found themselves 2-0 down with 15 minutes remaining ,when Beevers steered a fine header into the top corner from Teale’s cross.

The visitors tried to rally and Richards’ drive deflected wide but Morrison bagged the third eight minutes from time, heading in Teale’s near post corner.

Can I say I told you so… one win meet nothing… totally clueless waste of space time and money get him out.

Our unbeaten run is over then. Question remains what are the club doing to turn this around?

If you look at this game in isolation, Walsall played well first half and should have gone in at half time level. SW upped their game second half and scored a couple of good goals. Unfortunately despite a reasonable away performance against one of the division’s better clubs, the season so far has been a disaster and the blame lies with the manager.

So our upturn in fortunes was short lived eh Hutchings?

Which of the over-used, pathetic cliches will you trot out for this one? There’s one I’d use for you (think small, bearded cockney fella) “You’re fired”.

I don’t care that the performance may have been better, performances won’t keep us up. We need wins and you are NOT the manager that can get us those wins.

To use another well known catchphrase “You are the weakest link, goodbye”.

Was at Hillsborough last night, and indeed Walsall were a much better footballing side than SW, even if at times our back four looked nervous on the ball. We definitely had more possession over the 90 minutes. SW were definitely not top 4-5 quality, and the 3-0 definitely flattered. Jimmy was well annoyed at the first goal, a stronger hand and he would have kept it out. Fear now that possible absence of Reid and Macken will leave us very short of firepower – Grigg showed nice touches, but Dickinson was pretty woeful.

Totally agree with exiledsaddler, I also thought Jimmy knew he could have done better and they did play well, shame about some of the past games where they looked clueless.
