Reuben Reid: Blame players for Walsall slide
Thursday 28th October 2010, 11:29AM BST.
Reuben Reid today admitted Walsall have run out of excuses and the players are to blame for their shocking form.
The Albion loanee conceded the Saddlers cannot justify their start to the season after just one win in the last 11 games.
They go to promotion hopefuls Huddersfield on Saturday desperate for a result which would lift the pressure on boss Chris Hutchings.
And four-goal top scorer Reid knows – with fans calling for the manager’s head – the players cannot blame anyone but themselves.
“There’s no excuses why a player can’t come here and do well. We can’t prepare any better,” he said, with Walsall joint bottom of League One.
“Skip (Martin O’Connor) and the manager can’t do any more. We know what the other teams are about, train well in the week but us players have to take responsibility.
“I’ve played in a few teams in my short career and there are some damn good players here. We can’t put the start down to anything. It’s just in the games a few basic things were going wrong.”
The striker revealed his shock the Saddlers are almost bottom.
“I’m definitely surprised, there’s experience and good players in the team,” said the 22-year-old. “We haven’t got the results, but with the ability we’ve got in the changing room we know we can turn it round.”

I wouldn’t say there were “damn good players here” but I would say that there are players that shoulb be playing much better than they are. The reason they are not is obvious, they are confused and de-motivated by a manager that just isn’t good enough.
Hutchings out, simple as.

Unfortunately no one is listening anymore
Defensive errors cost us dearly on saturday but the performance over the season so far have been dreadful at times
Plymouth at home was the highlight so far
I dont agree that getting rid of the manager is always the next step to make I would give Hutch until Xmas to see whether he can turn it around
Its going to be an interesting two months because I cant see him going before then

Its not the players fault when the manager takes off our 2 best strikers and replaces them with one that is young an inexperienced and the other with one who still hasnt proved himself while wearing a walsall shirt. And this is all when we are looking to score a goal to get back in the game. Oh, and it was to the bottom of the league. Sack the fool

Here we go again, another one speak up for the management.
The term “Skip” seems to me to highlight an issue, too friendly for my.
They have a job to do and they aren’t doing it. Richard Money and Ray Graydon were never best mates with the players, but we had structure and discipline. Which lead to results on the pitch.
Somenthing severely lacking in Hutchings’ reign.

As I’ve said before, the players aren’t performing because the manager doesn’t know how to train and organise them. Under a decent manager we would be mid table.

Give him to Xmas???? Fair enough if you don’t mind being about 10 points adrift by then.
Let’s stop faffing about, hoping things will improve. They WON’T, get rid now while there’s still time to salvage something from this terrible season.

Problem is if he is sacked now, how longs it gonna take to find a ‘decent’ manager, so either we have to wait a while with a caretaker in charge or get another dire manager in need of a job, if they were any good in the first place they would have a job already.
We were lucky when we found Sir Ray and Mr Money but for every one of those we get a Jimmy Mullen or a Merson.
We need an Indian poultry firm to buy out bonsor…instead we have a bunch of headless chickens in charge.

Totally agree Tinned, there is no way we can wait till Christmas.
With the next 3 league games being against Huddersfield (A), Peterborough (H) ,Bournemouth (A), plus the FA Cup match we could be looking down both barrels, with lead in our face!
The club should act now and get rid of Hutch and “Skip”.
He is only going to fritter away more budget on loan players and that will leave less for the new man to do the necessary rebuilding.

And hear the fa cup game has been chosen for extended highlights on tele, that’ll be 10seconds then…
