Walsall want to keep David Davis

Walsall manager Chris Hutchings has confirmed he wants to extend midfielder David Davis’ loan from Wolves.

The 19-year-old’s spell ends after next weekend’s game at home to Exeter and Hutchings is keen to keep the 19-year-old for at least another month.

Davis has impressed in his four games for the Saddlers, despite their winless streak, and Hutchings will speak to Wolves manager Mick McCarthy about his starlet.

He said: “I’ll be giving Mick a buzz at some stage next week to see the situation and whether we can keep him again.

“I’d like to because he’s done very well, which is why he’s been playing. He’s got an old head on young shoulders and, in football terms, he’s quite mature.

“He will be the first to admit he didn’t have the best of games on Tuesday on the ball, but off the ball he was very effective. That’s what you’ve got to do sometimes.

“If the passing isn’t there, there shouldn’t be a lack of effort. You need to win headers and get in the right places, they are the things you need to do if you are having a bad time on the ball.

“If you get both you’ve got a player and I think he’s done that in recent weeks.”

The Saddlers arrested their six game winless run with a goalless draw at Leyton Orient on Tuesday and host Yeovil on Saturday – with Davis expected to start again.

Hutchings reckons, with Davis key to his plans, it could grease the wheels when it comes to asking McCarthy for an extension.

He said: “That comes into it, Mick will have to assess his situation at Wolves – whether he gets injuries to midfield players – it’s all ifs and buts until you ask the question.

“They could be quite content to go with what they’ve got and, if they are prepared to let him out again, it’s something we’ll look at.”

Hutchings has been impressed with how Davis has adapted to life in League One and predicted a big future for the teenager.

The Walsall boss said: “David has got something in him. He’s settled in very quickly, gets on well with all the lads and that’s credit to him.

“He works extremely hard and wants to better himself and it’s a good attitude from him to have.”

blame , blame, blame, first jeff, now chris!!! maybe some of our fans should look in the mirror and maybe start putting some of the blame on them selfs as fans creating a negative vibe about the club. I love walsall fc and i am always entertained when i go to a match because im proud to be a saddler!!! i aint got a bad word against walsall fc !!!!! not one , we are where we are because its where we belong, a small club in lower leagues with supporters that love there town !!! proper fans!!! but im afraid to say these people who are creating this negative vibe are not proper fans but moaners, trying to reck our club. think like this, ur opion does not count, i can bring my brother to the football and fill your seat. for next to nothing. go follow another team if you dont like it

    Joker Wolves

Does anyone think its a shame to see one of our local Midland clubs struggling like this? Maybe we should help out a little and go to a game now and again, show some support! Id hate to see Walsall FC close and If a Wolves fan can think this, surely some of the other teams fans feel the same?

aj, I can understand what Watford Saddler is trying to say: there is too much negativity around the Bescot – we haven’t got a bad squad, yes we are short of a couple of players (like an experienced central midfielder and goalkeeper) but our young players need encouragement now not a constant stream of abuse. I can see why Hutchings wants to keep Davis for another month as by then Taundry should be fit – Davis is playing in Taundry’s position….all very sensible stuff. And joker Wolves, can you bring your mates with you if you come down the Bescot, we need the money? Oh, and can you bring Kightly with you – tell him to bring his boots?
