Leyton Orient 0 Walsall 0
Tuesday 28th September 2010, 10:00PM BST.
Walsall ground out a gritty stalemate at Leyton Orient to end their run of six straight defeats and claim their first clean sheet of the season.
But they were grateful to the woodwork in the second-half, after former Albion man Adam Chambers’ deflected effort rebounded off the post.
Oliver Lancashire and Will Grigg had the Saddlers’ best chances but were unable to find a goal.
Under-pressure manager Chris Hutchings named an unchanged line-up from Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Hartlepool.
After a slow start, Oliver Lancashire seized on a loose ball when Matt Richards’ free-kick was only half cleared but his snap shot was beaten away by goalkeeper Jamie Jones.
Terrell Forbes glanced wide and Julian Gray’s lob landed just over, as the teams traded half chances in an uninspiring game.
Neither side looked to have the ability to unlock the other, but Orient’s bright start to the second-half put the Saddlers under pressure.
First Manny Smith’s excellent block denied Scott McGleish and then goalkeeper Jonny Brain tipped over Alex Revell’s header after 55 minutes.
Substitute Will Grigg, on for the ineffective Jon Macken, curled over before the woodwork came to the Saddlers’ rescue on 67 minute
Dean Cox found Chambers, whose strike hit Lancashire and rebounded off the post with Brain beaten.
Grigg had impressed in his second-half cameo and was testing the Orient defence, but it was the hosts who almost claimed the winner when Forbes headed wide with five minutes left.

Its about time Hutchings walked, he has not got a clue. Its one of the best squads we have had for years. Bring back Dickie Dosh!!

Jon – are you being serious? Are you really saying that the current squad is better than last year’s? Is Brain better than Ince, is Lescott betetr than Weston, Marshall better than Mattis or Bradley, Macken and Reid better than Deeney? I think we have a much weaker squad than last season and I do blame Hutchings for that. We are weaker in key areas: goalkeeper, central midfield and attack and that’s why we are where we are in the league. Whether Hutchings can motivate, organise and improve the current squad is open to debate – I would give him 3 more games and if we don’t improve then he should go.

Well done Walsall, I suppose a draw is better then nothing.

One solitary point form visits to the giants of Hartlepool & Leyton Orient??? Hutchings should be out of the door before 5pm tonight. Let’s not wait until we go on another losing streak (which we will with this clown in charge) before we take action. The man cannot put together a squad, he knows little about tactics, his substitutions are baffling, he cannot change a game, he has no plan B, his motivational skills look to be non-existant. What other decision can there be but to get rid?
