Ellie Simmonds is searching for a sixth Paralympic gold – and her second of the Rio Games – in the 100m S6 breaststroke today.

The 21-year-old from Aldridge grabbed a world record and the 200m individual gold late on Monday night but failed to defend her 400m freestyle crown on Tuesday.

She collected a bronze in her favourite event, which she won in Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012, behind Ukraine's Yelyzaveta Mereshko and Song Lingling of China.

Simmonds will be competing in the first heat of the 100m S6 breaststroke at 1.55pm against the likes of Canada's Nydia Langill, Reilly Boyt from the United States and fellow Brit Charlotte Henshaw. The final is at 9.50pm.

Meanwhile, Kidderminster's Claire Cashmore won silver again at her fourth Paralympic Games in the women's 100-metre breaststroke SB8.

The 28-year-old – who also won silver at London 2012 – had a tremendous start and was first to the wall at the turn, but Canada's Katarina Roxen came storming back to win gold. And after finishing three-tenths of a second outside her personal best in one minute 20.60 seconds, Cashmore admitted she expected more of herself.
