Saxons chief ‘totally livid’ with loss

Stourbridge Saxons’ director of rugby Neil Mitchell described himself as “totally livid” following his team’s disappointing home defeat against Blaydon.

The visitors claimed a comfortable win by a 20-point margin, after outscoring their misfiring hosts by four tries to none.

Whilst defeat against the club where his formative rugby was played – who had never previously won at Stourton Park – was never likely to please Mitchell, it was the Saxons’ performance that really left him fuming.

He said: “I am really angry about many aspects of our performance. Like us, Blaydon are having a tough time, and had not won an away game before last Saturday.

“In the week beforehand, we told the boys over and again to stay patient, stick to our patterns and do the basics well, as we did in large parts of the Sedgley Park game.

“I cannot believe how quickly that went out of their heads, and before we knew it, we were giving away ‘golden’ possession, and making schoolboy errors.

“We will speak to them again at training this week, and where necessary hammer home the message on a one-to-one basis, but individuals must start taking responsibility for their own actions.

“Missed tackles are my main gripe – the players cannot hide from what is on the DVD.
