Stourbridge Saxons look to improve

Stourbridge Saxons director of rugby Neil Mitchell has highlighted three key areas where his players need to improve when they head to Sedgley Park.

Ahead of the weekend trip, the Saxons chief admits his side fell short in concentration, application and physicality during a wretched first-half at Rosslyn Park on Saturday.

They trailed 25-3 at the break and, although a tremendous second-half led to tries from Matt Thomas, James Rodley and captain Ben Hughes, a late Park score meant they finished up on the end of a 33-24 defeat.

Mitchell said: “To win the second-half 21-8 shows it was a winnable contest. The problem was that we talked about physicality first-half, but it did not happen. There was too much talk about the previous week’s victory.

“We had three penalties early on in the scrum where we did not do ourselves any favours, we lost concentration and missed opportunities. To get nothing was extremely disappointing.”
