Twelve months after triumphing in dominant fashion in the showpiece event, the world champion again climbed to the top of the rostrum following a dramatic evening.

And there was even time for a kiss and a hug for mum Sue as Tai celebrated another glorious evening.

Unlike in 2013, Woffinden had things far from his own way. But he hit top gear when it mattered to fend off a determined field.

The Wolves favourite admitted victory was much tougher to achieve this time around - yet he was just thrilled to hold his nerve in a tense Grand Final to defend his crown. Woffinden said: "To be British Champion is a great honour so to defend my title is just amazing.

"I definitely had to work a lot harder than I did last year, and I guess in some ways that makes this win even sweeter.

"My form hasn't been the best in the UK and I was riding on an engine I've not used here before, which took me a couple of races to get used to. Fortunately things came together for me eventually and I managed to come good at the right time, which you need to do in these sorts of meetings.

"I made starts when it mattered and managed to find the set-up as the track changed later on.

"I rose to the occasion like I have done in the past and I'm just pumped to have won it again. It's one of the things that was on my checklist for this year, to try and win the British final again, so to get the job done is an awesome feeling.

"I was confident I could do it and I'm just so pleased I managed to hit the front in the final and get that win."
