Speeday star Ashley Morris in hospital after crash

Wolves speedway rider Ashley Morris is in hospital with head injuries today after a frightening crash at King's Lynn last night.

The former Cradley Heathens captain has slight bleeding on the brain and has been ruled out of racing for six to eight weeks.

He was sent flying from his machine and landed awkwardly on the Norfolk Arena track. He is being treated in a Cambridge hospital.

Promoter Chris Van Straaten said: "There was naturally a lot of concern for Ash because it was a nasty crash. We wish him well and we will miss him over the next few weeks."

Cradley Heathens have joined the list of well wishers for Morris, who spent four seasons with the Heathens and was skipper of their grand slam winning side last year.

Heathens chairman Nigel Pearson said: "I'm sure I speak on behalf of every Heathens fan in wishing Ash all the very best. He will always go down as a legend with this club."

Wolves head to Swindon tonight with King's Lynn's Lewis Rose a guest replacement for Morris.
