Wolves star Tai Woffinden could be crowned speedway world champion later this month after a stunning display in Saturday’s Slovenian Grand Prix.
Woffinden, in his fifth season at Monmore Green, went into the meeting knowing his nearest rival Emil Sayfutdinov was ruled out through injury.
And he took full advantage by racking up 17 points in a meeting won by Polish star Jarek Hampel. He could take the title in Stockholm a week on Saturday after opening up a 20-point gap.
He would be the first British world champion since Mark Loram 13 years ago.
