Wolverhampton's interest in the 'FA Cup of Darts' was over by the endof the first afternoon session at the PDC's UK Open.moreThe televised finals got underway for three days today at Butlins in Minehead with the ITV4 cameras broadcasting live, writes Craig Birch.

Wildcard qualifiers Dean Stewart and Glen McGrandle both went out in the first round, with Wayne Jones eliminated in the second phase.

The unseeded 128-player field is made up of the top 96 in the UK Open Order of Merit, played between the pros, and 32 wildcards from qualifiers at Rileys Sports Clubs across the country.

Both Stewart and McGrandle came through the Rileys route, qualifying from the city centre venue on Broad Street.

It was the seventh time Stewart has been involved in the competition's televised stages, but he's never been past the last 64.

This time, 'Wild Dart' was to make no progress at all after going down 6-4 to Barry Lynn on stage three. Scot McGrandle, who lives in Wolverhampton, was on stage eight.

He couldn't live with the exuberance of young Ryan Harrington, son of Sky Sports pundit and former World Championship finalist Rod. He lost 6-1.

Jones faced a tough test, despite sitting out the first round due to his ranking, against 2004 finalist Andy Jenkins. A close-run battle went to the last leg, where he bowed out 6-5.
