The PDC Development Tour regular, from Rushden, walked away from the city's Sports Arena with the £1,000 grand prize,

writes Craig Birch.

The 17-year-old, son of PDC Challenge thrower James, reached January's BDO World Youth Championship final during the same week.

He'll collect his trophy on the PDC's grandest of stages, at London's Alexandra Palace on Sunday after the World Campionship gets underway.

A trip to the venue normally proves fruitful for the talented teenager, who picked £400 for winning the BDO Under-18 Youth Challenge in July.

This victory culminated with the deciders after a six-event tour held all over the country, with the other 10 places going to the academy's leagues.

The JDC is run by current PDC pro Steve 'the Bomber' Brown, who was on hand at the Sports Arena to present Richardson with his cheque.

Stafford's Shaun Gibbons, 13, bowed out in the quarter-finals after coming through the group stages.

He beat Dan Perry 6-2 in the final with a 85.65 average, having racked up 90 in a 5-0 whitewash of Connor Levett in his last four clash.

He said: "'It feels amazing, I've won a few competitions in the last few weeks and I also got to the final of the BDO Youth Masters, which was really good and a confident boost.

"But to get to the final of the world youth the same week really got me up for it. Winning these tournaments is definitely giving me a lot of confidence coming up to the worlds final."

The only West Midlands competitor was Stafford's Shaun Gibbons, 13, who went out in the quarter-finals after coming through one of the four groups.

He recovered from losing 4-2 to group winner Luke Durham 4-2 to record victories over Declan Hooley and Matt Speakman, 4-3 and 4-2 respectively, to nab second place.

A 5-0 landslide defeat to John Brown in the last eight saw him miss doubles in three of the legs conceded, most unbecoming of his recent form.

Gibbons qualified through the 'academy routine' standings, where students play shanghai around the board from 10-20 to score points for a league table. He finished first ahead of 271 other players.
