Muhammad Fayaz key to Hawkins Cannock and Rugeley

Hawkins Cannock and Rugeley skipper James Lawley admits Muhammad Fayaz is key to their fortunes this season.

Fayaz starred with both bat and ball as Hawkins made it two wins out of two in Division Three last weekend with a 76-run win over Newport. The overseas star hit a quickfire 72 and then claimed 4-17 with the ball.

"He is the key player for us," said Lawley. "He bats in the key position at number three and bowls tight leg-spin.

Hawkins put their perfect record on the line at Sutton Coldfield, who have also won both games, tomorrow.

"Like many of the teams in this league, we don't know much about them," said Lawley. "They will be confident but so will we."

Milford Hall believe they may have unearthed a chip off the old block in Jordan Bulpitt.

The son of captain Guy Bulpitt, Jordan celebrated the week of his 16th birthday by making his first-team debut in last week's three-wicket defeat of Bridgnorth in Division Three.

Bulpitt Jnr, who opened the attack, produced the best bowling figures for his team, with 2-13 from six overs, and it could have been more if James Ralph (92) hadn't been dropped.

It wasn't enough to give his side the win they wanted, as they lost in the last over after posting 177-7, a total Bulpitt Snr believed was 20 short of challenging for the victory.

But the youngster did enough to suggest he could follow in the footsteps of his dad, a Staffordshire Minor Counties regular.

"I'm like any typical parent in that I want him to do well and I get on his case if I think there's things he can do better," said skipper Bulpitt.

"But he's one of the youngsters we're trying to develop and hopefully he can stay in the side because he did well."

There's still a feeling that Milford have yet to get started after their first game at Astwood Bank was abandoned.

They name an unchanged team for the visit of Quatt.
