Three former world titlists will share top billing for 'A Night of Champions' at the Grand Station on Friday night,

The conferencing and events venue, on Sun Street, have promised an evening of glitz and glamour with promoter Showfighter hoping to provide treble the value.

Former undisputed champion Riddick Bowe will not appear, though, after complications with his passport stopped him travelling from the United States.

Witherspoon and Tony Tucker have made the trip and will be joined by England's own Bruno, who finally got his hands on the WBC crown in 1995.

It came nine years after he was stopped for the WBA belt in the 11th round by Witherspoon, the last American world heavyweight champion to defend successfully on our shores.

The milestone is approaching of their battle for the belt at Wembley Stadium on 19 July 1986, which was Bruno's first world title shot.

The 54-year-old Londoner was a national favourite but needed three chances before he could claim a global strap, also losing to Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis.

'Terrible Tim' - a name given to him by Muhammad Ali as a compliment for the problems he caused him when they were sparring - was a world champion on two occasions.

The 58-year-old also held the WBC crown, having previously challenged for the belt by pushing the great Larry Holmes to a hotly-disputed points loss.

'TNT' Tucker held IBF honours and still possesses an unwanted record - the dubious distinction of being the shortest-reigning heavyweight champion in history.

Just 64 days of 1987 had elapsed from Tucker, 57, knocking out James 'Buster' Douglas in 10 before honouring an agreement to take on Tyson. He took 'Iron Mike' the distance, though.
