'An Audience With' the two-weight world champion is the final show on Monday December 21 before the Civic is given a makeover,

writes Craig Birch.

It won't open again until the PDC Grand Slam of Darts returns for eight days from 12 November 2016, with a greater capacity and improved facilities.

An evening with 'the Hitman' represents a last chance to see the Civic as it is today with the retired fighter, still just 37, a funny man of the public speaking circuit.

Hatton's blend of storytelling and cracking jokes should raise plenty of laughs among the crowd, who can go along to the show at rock-bottom prices.

In the ring, the Mancunian ruled as the IBF, IBO and WBA 'super' title holder and is the only Englishman to have shared a ring with Floyd Mayweather Jnr and Manny Pacquiao.

He's headlined the major Las Vegas shows and over here, too, drawing a then-record 55,000 fans to what is now the Etihad Stadium at Manchester City Football Club in 2008.

The famed bodysnatcher lost just three times in 48 pro contests at light welterweight and welter, with two of those to Mayweather and Pacquiao.

He's won legendary wars with the likes of Kostya Zsu, Luis Collazo and Juan Urango and was Ring Magazine's Fighter of the Year in 2005, when he held their title.

He took a long hiatus from the sport before an ill-fated return after three years in 2012, where he was counted out in the ninth round against Vyacheslav Senchenko.

Tickets, which start at just £6.50, are available by calling the Civic Box Office on 0870 320 7000 or from www.boxfroguk.com. You can also pay on the door.

There will an auction, raffle and photo opportunities on the night, with a buffet and meet and greet for those with VIP passes. For more information, call promoter Ken Purchase on 07976 842 383.
