Breeze battled to a points win over the game Christian Hoskin-Gomez in the Holte Suite at Aston Villa Football Club on Saturday night,

writes Craig Birch.

The teenage welterweight, 19, was put under pressure by the Devon-based Spaniard, himself only 20, and worked hard for his success.

Hoskin-Gomez bombed out of the corner at the opening bell and tried to instantly take him out, but Breeze didn't panic and settled into his game-plan.

An active jab set up his flurry of punches as he targeted the body, but there was no removing his never-stopped opponent before the distance.

The cards were called into action at the Holte Suite where referee Kevin Parker had it 39-38, Breeze dropping a round and a share of another session on the way.

He said: "I was a bit aggrieved by the scoring as I felt I had won three of the rounds comfortably, but it was a good result.

"He came for a fight and never took a step back, so he made it tough for me. I came through it and showed a bit of grit, too.

"He was made for my jab and combinations. I felt I showed a bit of everything."

Unbeaten-in-seven Breeze will next appear on the big Matchroom Boxing bill at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham on Saturday October 17.

The Sky Sports cameras will be present, as they were when he outpointed former Midlands champion Kevin McCauley in May.

'The Hurricane' is building up towards Tommy Owens' Christmas show in Birmingham on December 17, where he could be going in for one of the new Challenge belts.

He said: "This could turn out to be a nice year for me and I thought going for a title would probably have been next year. It's time to train right and live the life."
