He's the only fighter in action from the area having to box off for a crown with a place in the national stages at stake,

Hinks, from Merridale Boxing Club in Wolverhampton, has already come through one test in the national competition.

A three-pronged 66kg category in Class A, for boxers born in 2000, will come down to Hinks and Atherstone's Corey Gilks for West Midlands honours.

Hinks will be back at the Donnington Sports & Social Club in Telford, the same venue where he outpointed Brad Willetts, from Priory Park in Dudley, unanimously last weekend.

Niall Felton, from the Brooklands gym ran by retired professional Darren McDermott, will receive a bye to the 40kg national pre-quarter finals, as does Warley's Owen Brown at 50kg.

Walsall Wood's Hamza Ahmed is through at 57kg with Ryan Cotterell, from Richie Carter's Golden Gloves in Wolverhampton, joining him at 60kg for the clash with their Merseyside counterparts.

One Black Country girl has entered in Class A and is another to walk over, Wednesbury's Maria Bishop awaiting her first bout in the tournament.

Two Black Country boys had to fight to get through in Class B (2000), with Brooklands' Harry Conlan seeing off 54kg rival William Perry's Jack Grainger.

Another William Perry prospect bowed out unanimously at 60kg, Liam Howes defeated by Brummie Jack Hodson from the Jewellery Quarter.

A second Black Country derby battle came at 63kg, where Priory Park's Finbar Patrick did the business unanimously against Warley's Amir Ali.

All of the entrants will be hoping to make the national final, which will take place over one day at the Magna Centre in Rotherham on Saturday October 10.
