Wolverhampton's Des Bowater has ruled himself out of a shot at the Midlands featherweight title next month after a bout of illness.

Bowater had been due to compete in one of four contests for an area crown, against Bobby Jenkinson, at Wolverhampton Civic Hall on June 6.

That bout has now been scrapped, but Lincoln's Jenkinson will still box on as planned with Birmingham's Paul Holt now filling the breach, writes Craig Birch.

Holt had been accepted by the British Boxing Board of Control for a meeting with Dudley's Ryan Corrigan earlier in the year. Bowater will return in the autumn, possibly at super feather.

'Jenko,' beaten just once in nine bouts, now faces a similarly formidable foe when he co-challenges with the stylish Brummie over 10 rounds.

Holt rebounded from his first pro defeat last year to Simas Volosinas to wallop Aaron Flinn in March by the same result - third round stoppage - to make it four wins from five.

Him stepping up to the plate means the bill retains a quartet of battles for Midlands belts headlined by light middleweight boss Jason Welborn, from Rowley Regis, defending against Dudley's Ryan Aston.

The light welterweight crown will also be contested on the bill as champion Luke Paddock, from Bloxwich, takes on Aston's Chris Truman.

A war is expected in the evening's other title tussle, as Andrew Robinson and 'Prince' David Davis lock horns for the super middleweight strap.
