A double-figure fight night hosted by Richie Carter's Golden Gloves gym will once again take place at Essington Working Men's Club,

writes Craig Birch.

And among those watching the young fighters perform will be Tony Wilson, Olympian and British light heavyweight boss in the 1980s.

Joining him will be fellow Wulfrunian Dean Harrison, who challenged the formidable Paul McCloskey for the Lonsdale belt at light welterweight in 2009.

Another champion from the Midlands in attendance is Burton's Neville Brown, ex-British middleweight title holder who took on Steve Collins for the WBO world crown.

Brummie Terry O'Connor, one of the leading referees in British boxing, will take a night off from being the man in the middle to sit ringside.

Carter, himself, had 12 professional contests in the same division and was a national amateur champion, winning the 1987 junior ABAs.

The pick of his stable on show will be Central England champion George Vernon, teenage prospect Ryan Cotterill and big heavyweight Anthony Woolery.

Vernon is looking for a contender to that 56kg belt while Essington's own Cotterill, just 14, is one to watch along with the heavy-hitting Woolery.

Sponsors tables are still available at £30 per person which includes ringside seats, a buffet and waitress service. Standard tickets are £10 on the door. For more information, call 07966 173 456.
