Two out of three wasn't bad for the Dudley-based gym with third entrant Brad Willetts progressing without boxing at 63kg through a bye,

writes Craig Birch.

England international Jerry Mongan and Blake Carlisle climbed through the ropes on Sunday at the Irish Centre in Digbeth, Birmingham.

All are competing in the boxers born in 2000 category, where Mongan comprehensively outpointed Solihull's Ismaeel Mohammad unanimously.

Clarke had to work a bit harder down at 44kg where he saw off Levi Carey, from Willenhall in Coventry, by split decision over the distance.

Joining that trio at the same venue for this Sunday's West Midlands finals is Rhamatullah Sher, from Lions in Dudley, after his 52kg victory.

He defeated tough Brummie Kealan McColgan, from Pat Benson's Boxing Academy, on another split, which also saw Walsall Wood triumph.

Zashif Khan will represent Shaun Healy's Wood on Sunday after another close-run affair against Liam Burton, from Christ the King in Coventry.

Rugeley's Oliver Cooper was another to benefit from a bye at 46kg while, in the female side of the 2000 competition, Paige Goodyear awaits a match.

The former Schools national champion is from Brooklands in Dudley, operating out of the home gym of former English middleweight champion Darren McDermott.
