Glover was supposed to be taking on former European No 1 Esham Pickering before he was forced to pull out with a thigh injury,

writes Craig Birch.

That has left 'the Tipton Slasher' paired with Plymouth's Adaway, who only made his pro debut recently, over eight rounds for the British Masters Bronze featherweight title.

Both were buoyant as they tipped the scales at the Pitch Sports Bar & Grill on Bridge Street yesterday, ready to play their part in a huge weekend for British boxing.

They are in action on the same night as the much-anticipated heavyweight clash between Tyson Fury and Dereck Chisora at the Excel in London.

The Walsall card will finish in plenty of time for spectators to go and watch Fury battle Chisora on BoxNation, with fans invited to the Pitch.

Tickets to the Town Hall also gain free entry into the after-show party around the corner, where the fight will be screened live on giant screens.

Glover is planning to send punters there early with stoppage, but admits he doesn't know what to expect from his unknown opponent.

Target - Tipton's Lee Glover is targeting an early night at Walsall Town Hall tonight.

The 27-year-old said: "I can't wait now. I was looking forward to taking on Pickering but Adaway is a different kettle of fish.

"I don't know much about him, to be honest, but I respect the fact he's willing to take me on. I hear he was a decent amateur, so it will be a different kind of test for me.

"I will be wary of the threat he poses. He's going to hunt me down, but that's how I like it. I want fighters to come and attack. I can exploit them.

"It will be explosive - while it lasts. I respect everyone I fight and I never say 'I'm going to stop him' but if the chance is there, that's what I'll be going for."

The game Adaway, 21, will be calling on his unpaid experience to get him through, having reached the old senior ABA semi-finals and boxing for England on two occasions.

He warns Glover he isn't scared of him, saying: "It's a big step up in class, not to mention going from four to eight rounds, but I'm confident.

"This fight was only a possibility as long as I wanted it. I jumped at the chance, as I know a win will get people talking about me.

"I've been around boxing for the past 10 years and took on the best from an early stage. I don't want my professional career to be any different.

"I want people to see my ability early on and I want to be chasing titles. I didn't even hesitate, I believe it's a fight I'm going to win."

Black County compatriots Lennox Clarke and Ryan Corrigan compete on the under-card, with the first bell sounding at 7.30pm.

Halesowen's Clarke will be looking to smash through Jamie Ambler in their six-round super middleweight bout, after stopping Raimonds Sniedze in 14 seconds last month.

Coseley's Ryan Corrigan ticks over at super featherweight targeting a fifth win in six contests, with Sheffield's Qassim Hussain in the other corner.

Home-town hero Martin Gethin, the former British lightweight champion, will also join supporters for a guest appearance.

Tickets, priced at £30 and £50 ringside, are available from the Town Hall Box Office on 0845 111 2900. You can also pay on the door tonight.
