Walsall's Martin Gethin has enlisted the help of a Kung Fu expert to help chop through Ammeth Diaz when the pair box a IBF world title final eliminator.
Gethin sought the advice of strength & conditioning guru, Nico Kolokythas, and has been working with him every day during his training camp.
And the British lightweight champion believes it will help master the art of belting the Panamanian pugilist when the two clash at Walsall Town Hall a week on Friday.
He said: "I am feeling in the best shape I have ever been in. Nico is teaching me little techniques and has been tweaking my regime to get the best out of me. I can feel the difference.
“Nico has been studying and practicing Kung Fu for 15 years and is head coach at the Walsall campus of Wolverhampton University.
"He has brought elements of his training in to the work he is doing with me. He’s looked at my stability and mobility and made me feel extra sharp and super fit.”
The 29-year-old staged an open training session at the Saddlers Shopping Centre in Walsall on Saturday as he drums up support for his hometown rumble.
Home advantage could prove key in his battle against Diaz, also 29, who has already boxed for the title and is the favourite to land a shot at champion Miguel Vazquez.
He said: "I’m definitely ready. It’s the kind of fight a boxer dreams of. Winning the British title in January was a massive thing for me.
"Now I’m ready to push on again and prove myself at the top level of boxing. I have worked hard to get to this point.
"I have been a professional boxer for nine years and had 28 pro fights to get to this point. It’s been a long road but it’s been worth it.
"Everything I have got out of boxing has come through hard work and dedication. Nothing has been given to me without a fight, literally."
