Ryan Wall ended the Black Country's interest in the ABA Novice competition at the first national stage after he lost in the quarter-finals.

The Wednesbury ABC amateur fighter lost by unanimous decision to Kyle Lomotey, of Astley VIP in Wigan, at the Manchester Boxing Centre of Excellence.

They boxed off at 75kg in Class A – for fighters who have had 10 fights or under – yesterday afternoon and Lomotey showed why he's undefeated in nine.

The area champions fought at close quarters and Wall didn't allow himself to be pushed around by Lomotey, who has had mostly his own way so far.

Fagan was the stronger and Wall displayed grit to deal with some heavy shots, as he ran the favourite close for the first two of the three rounds.

Come the last session, Wall went hell for leather but came off the worse in most of the exchanges, tilting all of the five judges into Lomotey's corner.

But Wall did himself proud and didn't let his work rate drop throughout, as he had to settle for bowing out of the tournament as the Midlands title holder.

Meanwhile. Connor Jones will have to wait to box off for a quarter-final place in the national stages of the Clubs for Young People championships.

Jones, of Lions ABC in Dudley, was meant to battle with Cheshunt ABC's Brandon Fagan in a pre-quarter final on an International Boxing Academy club-show.

But the Cheshunt club informed Lions they couldn't make the show at the Kingshurst Labour Club in Birmingham on Saturday night, so the fight was postponed.

The contest has been rescheduled to take place on a Tamworth ABC club show on Friday night with the winner boxing again, at a venue to be decided, on Sunday.

Laying in wait and coming in fresh will be Dylan Duffy, from Pegasus ABC in Northern Ireland, in the 54kg quarter-final of Class A, for boxers born in 1996.
