Joyce suffered a 6-2 defeat at the hands of Tamworth-based David Gilbert in the second round of the competition. Breaks of 78 and 76 saw Joyce capture the third and sixth frames in the best of 11 match but Gilbert proved just too strong as he eased to victory.

Earlier, Joyce's big rival Mark Allen made the first 147 break of his career during his second round match.

The Northern Irishman's maximum gained him an extra £5,000 plus another £5,000 high break prize if it is not equalled in the competition.
