The PDC shifted the Players Championship dates around as they are making their debut on the BBC this weekend, for the Champions League featuring their top eight players in Cardiff.

But first came the Barnsley Metrodome on the Pro Tour where Jones, Bloxwich's Matthew Dennant and Rugeley's Mark Hylton all featured.

None of them made any headway in Tuesday's first competition, all tumbling out after their first visits to the oche.

Jones was downed 6-2 by Barrie Bates, with Dennant falling to James Richardson by the same verdict. Hylton lost 6-4 to Ronnie Baxter.

The darters returned to the same venue on Wednesday, with Jones getting off the mark by shading a last leg battle over John Bowles 6-5.

Dennant was vanquished 6-4 by Simon Whitlock, with Hylton drubbed 6-1 against Nigel Daniels. Jones was defeated 6-3 by Jelle Klaasen in the second round.

Thursday's third and final outing at the Metrodome produced another hat-trick of first round exits for the three.

Jones made a fight of a tough draw with seventh seed Dave Chisnall, before going down 6-4. Dennant was seen off 6-4 by Bowles, while Hylton came off second best 6-2 to Jamie Lewis.
