Sam Mantom: Walsall won't be in drop fight
Midfielder Sam Mantom remains confident Walsall will not get sucked into a late-season relegation battle.
The Saddlers returned to training today looking to move on from Sunday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat at Wembley and focus on their remaining nine league fixtures, starting with Saturday's trip to Chesterfield.
Results over last weekend have left Dean Smith's side just four points above the League One drop zone, but Mantom is confident they have nothing to worry about.
He said: "You don't want to be looking over your shoulder and I don't think we will be. I think we will be fine. It has been very tight all season to be fair.
"If you win two you are probably looking at four points off the play-offs again and well clear of relegation. Now Wembley is out of the way, we can focus fully on the league."
Though the season might be entering the final run-in, for Mantom it feels like a new beginning after months out with a knee injury.
The appearance at Wembley was just his seventh of the campaign and only the third start.
After experiencing so much frustration, he is determined to end the campaign strongly, adding: "It feels like the start of the season for me."
