Liam Kinsella follows in father's footsteps with professional contract at Walsall FC
Midfielder Liam Kinsella today signed professional forms at Walsall – and expressed the hope of following in the footsteps of father Mark.
The 18-year-old, who has put pen to paper on his first professional deal, is the son of the former Saddlers midfielder. He has been a regular for the club's youth team and has also featured for the reserves. "I am absolutely delighted to have signed this deal," he said.
"Dad is proud of me. He had a great career. Hopefully I can have the success that he had."
Kinsella's father also played for Charlton, Villa and Albion before finishing his career at the Banks's.
The Saddlers have earned a reputation for giving young players a chance in the first team and the younger Kinsella says he that is a great source of motivation.
"I know that the hard work is only just starting, though, and it's time for me to knuckle down and continue to learn."
Kinsella becomes the second youth teamer to sign professional forms this season following striker Amadou Bakayoko.
"Liam has worked extremely hard over the past 18 months or so," said manager Smith. "He has developed at a really pleasing rate and we have seen enough in him to offer him this deal.
"He has all the attributes required to fit in to what we are trying to achieve here along with a willingness to work hard and learn, which will serve him and the club well."
