Morale still high says Walsall boss Dean Smith
Walsall face Coventry City tonight with manager Dean Smith insisting his players have lost no belief and aren't feeling sorry for themselves.
The Saddlers head to Northampton's Sixfields Stadium to meet the exiled Sky Blues, aiming to end a five-game winless run which has cast a shadow over their once bright play-off prospects.
Smith believes his side have been on the wrong end of some poor refereeing decisions in the past two games, conceding a penalty in the 2-1 home defeat to Crawley, before having Sam Mantom sent-off in Saturday's 2-1 reverse at Preston.
"We don't talk about things which have gone against us and we still have plenty of belief," he said.
"We haven't won for a few games but as I said to the players, I am not overly concerned about the performances.
"If you look at the last five games, we should have beaten Swindon, we had one game against MK Dons where we didn't deserve to get anything but we bounced back and did okay against Peterborough.
"Then in the last two games we have had decisions go against us. But those kind of things are out of our control."
All we can concentrate on is what we can control, which is our own performances."
The Saddlers were expecting to hear this morning whether their appeal of Mantom's red card was successful. Currently the midfielder is set to miss tonight's game as part of a three game ban.
Walsall can close the gap on sixth-placed Peterborough to two points with victory after the Posh were beaten 2-0 at Sheffield United last night.
