Dean Smith today claimed consistent performances are vital to Walsall continuing their surge up League One.
The Saddlers sit in sixth place and have been showered with plaudits following Tuesday’s superb 3-1 win at Swindon Town.
Smith’s side became the first to win at the County Ground this season but the challenges do not get any easier in the coming weeks, starting with Saturday’s derby clash with Coventry at the Banks’s.
They then travel to face MK Dons, before hosting second-placed Peterborough live on Sky Sports, with an FA Cup first round tie sandwiched in between.
Smith says his players cannot afford to take their eye off the ball.
“Swindon’s management team told us after the game on Tuesday they thought we were magnificent,” said Smith. “But what we have got to make sure we do is follow it up.
We had a good win at home last Saturday against Stevenage but we have another tough game now against Coventry, who are flying.
“The key in this league is consistency. We know we are hard to beat.
“We have been in every match, with the exception of the home game against Preston.
“I’m blessed really because the players I have got all want to get better and they can only take a lot of confidence from a game like Swindon. They are a good team and we made them look average.”
