Walsall were today boosted by the news that full-back Andy Taylor will return for Wednesday’s trip to Stoke City.
The left-back has not featured for the first team so far, after picking up an ankle injury in the pre-season friendly with Nottingham Forest last month.
But after playing 45 minutes for the reserves against Wrexham last week, boss Dean Smith confirmed the 27-year-old is in contention for the trip to the Potters.
Whether he immediately regains his place remains to be seen, with Mal Benning having impressed Smith while deputising.
“Andy will be in contention for Stoke,” said Smith, whose side lost 1-0 to Brentford on Saturday.
“He played half a game last week for the reserves and that was his first action of the season, but he will be in contention for Wednesday’s game for sure.”
“He will give Mal a push. Mal is a young lad who has come through the system and has done well.”
