Febian Brandy 'relaxed' about deal talks at Walsall

Walsall ace Febian Brandy today insisted he is “relaxed” about his contract situation and will ignore any off-field distractions.

The Saddlers are looking to tie down their key players early and Brandy revealed he is yet to hold talks over a new deal.

James Baxendale, Andy Taylor, Mal Benning and Paul Downing all penned fresh terms last month as boss Dean Smith moves to avoid a summer of uncertainty.

Ex-Manchester United starlet Brandy has scored five goals in his last eight games and is yet to sign but insisted any distractions will not harm his form.

He said: “I’m relaxed about it. I’m a relaxed character and what you see is what you get. We’ll see how it goes.

“I want to concentrate on my football and see what happens. I’m just glad to be back playing football and I have to be grateful to Dean Smith for taking a risk on me.

"I’m going to call it a risk because I didn’t play the game for two years. I’m glad to be repaying him with some goals.

“You have to see how the season pans out. The only thing I’m bothered about is concentrating on Walsall for now and getting the results.”

The 24-year-old scored his sixth goal of the season in Saturday’s 2-1 win at joint leaders Doncaster with the Saddlers ninth after last night’s results.

Brentford, Yeovil and Sheffield United all won to leave them seven points behind the play-offs ahead of Saturday’s visit of rivals, and Brandy’s former club, Notts County.

But Brandy insisted they will never change their style in their quest for success after they outclassed Doncaster in their own back yard.

He said: “Doncaster came to stop us playing which backfired on them. We got the three points and kept playing our football and got two goals.

“We’re not going to have to adapt – we’ve come up against teams who have played different formations and have beaten them. If we just keep playing our football we’ve got a real chance of pushing up the table.”

I don't understand why Dean hasn't approached him sooner. Sign him up!

The article says "he is yet to hold talks over a new deal" that doesn't mean to say Dean Smith hasn't tried! Brandy's agent is probably telling him to hold out for as long as possible, get a few more goals and see what offers come in at the end of the season - I wouldn't mind betting he's already on one or two clubs' radars.

So I'll think you'll find James, that Dean Smith has approached him and the boot is very much on the other foot. Remember h'es a Man Utd product - probably the same agent he had when he was there and with Man Utd, comes a culture.
