Kitching was delighted to see his side extend their unbeaten start to the season in Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South.

He said: "Going to Spalding was always going to be tough because they are clearly one of the favourites. But it's a great result.

Rangers were in front in the 17th minute as Ben Haseley raced on to Christian Dacres' flick-on before blasting past goalkeeper Michael Duggan.

A stunning save from Duggan prevented Alex Melbourne from doubling the visitors' lead, as Boro continued to dominate.

But Spalding improved after the break and Tom Waumsley was thwarted by an acrobatic stop from goalkeeper Adam Whitehouse.

Rooney netted with a precise finish 13 minutes from time until Griffiths handed the Tulips a lifeline in the 85th minute.

But the goalscorer turned villain as he was sent off for an ugly challenge on Tom Morris.
