Stafford Rangers are hoping to complete a trio of new signings in time for tomorrow's trip to FC United of Manchester.

Boro' boss Graham Heathcote has already completed the high-profile captures of former Kidderminster winger Brian Smikle and ex-Aldershot, Macclesfield and England C international midfielder Lewis Chalmers in the last two days.

The 28-year-old pair, who have played most of their careers at Conference National level, are designed to start changing the face of a club whose reputation has been battered by a season-long struggle against the drop that sees Rangers 13 points from safety going into tomorrow's clash. But Heathcote is determined not to throw in the towel and has targeted a young, un-named centre-back as well as the two former Altrincham men – providing his club waives the seven day approach.

"I'm looking at a young central defender," said the Marston Road boss.

"We need to restore the reputation of this club."
