UEFA A-licensed coach Phillips, 40, worked with boss Dave Hockaday in a six-year spell in non-league football's top tier with Forest Green Rovers.

He represented Swindon and Cheltenham Town in his playing days.

His primary concern will be working with the three Aggborough shot-stoppers, Dean Snedker, Alex Palmer and Jono Brown, as well as squad fitness and conditioning.

But Hockaday's squad have been dealt a blow as defender Jordan Tunnicliffe will miss tonight's National League clash at Chester FC with a hamstring injury.

The 22-year-old centre-half came off in last week's Under-21 defeat at Fleetwood Town.

Harriers are expected to learn the extent of the damage later this week.

But Phillips noted the high level of training that they have enjoyed since ending their winless run against Woking 10 days ago.

"Since the result against Woking, training has been very intense and very sharp, and that's pleasing," Phillips said.

"It's exactly the response that confidence brings and we're chomping at the bit, we can't wait for the game tonight.

"They're favourites but that's a great place for us to be."
